GET UP, CAST OFF AND PUT ON - Taken From Romans Chapter 13:11-14



BE ALERT FOR THE TIME IS DRAWING NEAR!


SERMON TAKEN FROM: Romans 13:11-14 KJV- And that, knowing the time, that now is the high time to awake out of sleep: for now, is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

12) The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness and let us put on the armor of light.

13) Let us walk honestly, as in the day, not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

14) But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof.

In the book of Isaiah 38:1-2- In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, thus saith the Lord, set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live. Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall and prayed unto the Lord.  

Hezekiah was showing that if he's to go home, he's going home praying. 

Paul was saying in verse 11, that we are to know the time we are living in, we need to wake up. In order to be awake, it means that we are asleep, we allowed unrighteousness to take over our lives. God said to Hezekiah to set your house in order and Paul was writing, telling the church to set your house in order. Now is the time to make your peace calling and election sure. 




Some make plans to destroy others because they may not like the individual and see them as a stumbling block; supposed death take you while you are planning their downfall, a question we ought to ask ourselves, WHERE WOULD WE SPEND ETERNITY? It's time to make the wrong right, we need to recognize what we are doing is wrong. Nobody can change for you, that is something only God can do, if you want to change you will get change. Every man needs to work out his own salvation (Philippians 2:12). One day you will need to give an account for yourself before God. 

In verse 12 - let us therefore cast off the works of darkness and let us put on the armor of light, we ought to wake up and recognize that the signs are taking place right before us. 

In verse 9 of Romans chapter 13 - Thou shall not commit adultery

  • Thou shall not kill
  • Thou shall not steal
  • Thou shall not bear false witness
  • Thou shall not covet
  • Thou shall love thy neighbor as thy self

Paul was speaking to people who professed to be believers, this was all taking place in the church at Rome. People may not kill you physically, but they may kill you spiritually. Not everyone that is going to church has the best intension, Judas had the best teacher (Jesus Christ), yet he fell into mischief. Nothing is wrong with the church or the teacher; it's his character and attitude was not right. God don't look at the clothes he looks at the heart. Paul is saying that the darkness has already pass and the light is coming. Christ is coming again; it's time to wake up.

Although we may strife for righteousness, we will make mistakes - Proverbs 24:16, we need to be persistent. 

In Hebrews 12:1-2 - we are to lay aside every sin and weight so easily to bet set and looking to Jesus who's the author and finisher of our faith. In James 1:12 - Blessed is the man that endure temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive a crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. True gold is tested by fire and one day we will be tested. 


                                                        


THE TIME HAS COME FOR THE CHURCH TO WAKE UP, TAKE OFF AND TO PUT ON RIGHTOUSNESS.

2 Chronicles 20:1-4 King Jehoshaphat Trust God for Victory.
