THE HOUR OF DECISION - Rev. Warren Simon




DATE: Sunday 28th December 2025                                 SERMON TAKEN FROM: Joshua 24:1-17


vs 15 - And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.


Joshua was very old and nearing death when he gathered the elders and all of Israel for his final address, by asking them to reflect on all that God has done for them. 

The same as we are about to crossover in 2026, we ought to reflect on the history that God has done for us. 

A reminder was given to them in Joshua 24: 

  • vs 2+3: God reminded the Israelites that He first chose their Ancestor, Abraham from across the Euphrates river where his family worshipped other gods, bought him to Caanan and gave him many descendants, starting with Issac to form his chosen people, laying the foundation for their nation and covenant  
  • vs 3+4 - giving him Issac, Jacob and Esau, assigning land to Esau while Jacob's family went to Egypt establishing the foundational linage and promised land.
  • 5 -7: sending Moses and Aaron to plague Egypt, bringing the Israelites out of slavery with mighty acts and saving them at the Red Sea from pursuing Egyptians bringing darkness between enemies and causing the sea to cover the Egyptians, to show God's deliverance and His faithfulness
  • 7-8: sustained them in the wilderness for a long time and finally bought them into the land of the Amorites, fighting for them and giving the land into their hands for possession.
  • 9-10: protected Israel from Balak, King of Moab by preventing Balaam from cursing them; instead, God made Balaam bless Israel repeatedly, thus delivering them from Balak's attempt to harm them through spiritual means, showing God's faithfulness and power over their enemies.
  • 12-13: sending hornets to drive out the Amorite kings and other inhabitants, giving Israel a land they didn't earn filled with cities, vineyards and olive groves they didn't build or plant, proving victories weren't by Israel's own might but by divine power, securing their prosperity. 
  • 14-15: God, through Joshua called the Israelites to choose between serving Him or the foreign gods of their ancestors and the Amorites, emphasizing that He bought them from slavery in Egypt and delivered them in the wilderness, giving them the promised land; this highlights God's faithfulness and sets up covenant renewal where Joshua declares his own household's commitment to serve only the Lord.
We to have to choose which God we will serve, Joshua declared that "as for me and my house we will serve the Lord," this is important, the hour of decision; are we going to serve God? or are we going to serve the god of this world?    

God believes in family, when God called Abraham, it was him and his family, He saved Noah and his family. In Exodus 2: Moses, Aaron and Mariam were a family. 


In the book of 1 Chronicles 16- Leading in Worship - David appointed levities to minister, thank and praise the Lord before the Ark of the Covenant, and he himself danced and celebrated the Ark's arrival in Jerusalem. He "returned to bless his household," indicating he led his family in devotion as well.   

In Acts 16:25-32 - The jailor and his family got saved.



When God calls you, he starts with you to make a difference in your family, we ought to be more sincere and dedicated. The family is so powerful that the devil know it's a threat, in psalm 133 - it reads "Behold how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity," it's so powerful that it draws the anointing (vs 2-3).

We see where in:

  1. Job 1:5 - he intercedes on his family behalf 
  2. Rahab (Joshua 2:1-24) - had faith in the God of Israel, covered the spies and ensured her family got saved

The devil knows very well that the family that prays together, stays together, so he would look to divide the family, but we ought to remember that "God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in trouble." - Psalm 46:1.

FOR 2026 WE OUGHT TO REMEMBER THIS:

  • Psalm 92:12 - The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
  • Romans 8:35 - Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

2 Chronicles 20:1-4 King Jehoshaphat Trust God for Victory.

  SERMON: 2 Chronicles 20:1-4 - It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.   (2) Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, there cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and behold they be in Hazazontamar, which is Engedi.
